I have been a documentary photographer for 30 years. My journey began in Hawaii while vacationing with a friend, whose family owned a camera store. I borrowed his camera and I was hooked.

Upon arriving home, I took workshops with Ansel Adams and Yousuf Karsh, who helped transform my vision. My first project was photographing leading tourist attractions in my town. That exposure led me to a position working for a tourist newspaper, where I photographed Joan Baez, Kenny Loggins, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Marley, and others backstage, who were performing at the local arena.

With a passion for travel, I embarked on a photographic journey, which took me around the world working for clients such as the Spanish Tourist Board, Royal Air Moroc, Pan American, Air France and TWA, while visiting India (worked with Tibetan children in Dharamsala), China (lived with a family on Hainan Island), Thailand, Mexico, Morocco, Canary Islands, Europe, Singapore, Philippines, Scandinavia, Caribbean.

With this extensive traveling, I was exposed to the innocence and sensitivity captured in the remarkable faces of the people I encountered. I was drawn in on those extraordinary eyes, which characterized a homeland. My style was born. I found myself mesmerized by strangers on the street. My eye would seek out subjects separated from the crowds, while drawn into the simplicity of space that surrounded them. Emotions also played a pivotal part, capturing private moments. A strong image embraces some emotion. Recording the human soul through compassion, isolation and contemplation always draws me in. Stopping time...revealing a secret through the eyes, portrays a story untold. The subject naturally presents themselves, if you can slow yourself down, capturing that split second of time.

I have been teaching compositional skills to every age level for the last 12 years and have written a vast number of articles on "how to see." I am co-creator of the largest educational photographic website, photoworkshop.com, which began with a simple idea of educating all levels of photographers, a mere 15 years ago.
