After a mile climbing up steep steps, we came across a beautiful mountain village, outside Guilin. Everything, including all building supplies and staples are brought up by hand. Many elderly women balance heavy logs and weighted bags on their backs. I came across a modern school, at the very top, where we were greeted warmly by the school children. We stayed awhile and wrote English words on the blackboard, which they were thrilled to recite.
